United States

Whether you’re working on the remote shores of Prudhoe Bay, Alaska, or in our state-of-the-art labs in Houston, Texas, a career with us can take you practically anywhere

Our roots in the United States stretch all the way back to 1866, when we in a partnership with Pennsylvania-based ARCO heritage company. Currently, we employ about 17,000 people and, over the past decade, BP has invested more than $90 billion in the U.S. – more than any other energy company.

We use the latest technology to explore the farthest reaches of the country to find, extract and refine new sources of raw materials before retailing them as high quality oil and gas products. Across the country, from our U.S. headquarters in Houston to refineries in the Midwest, you’ll find our people in oil and gas fields, state-of-the-art labs and petrochemical plants. But, wherever they work, our diverse, skilled teams come together to deliver energy that keeps America moving and spurs economic growth.

Lifestyle

Houston – America’s fourth largest city – is home to our U.S. headquarters and the largest concentration of BP staff in the world. Home to specialist activities, such as our exploration and production unit, our campus brings together people with a range of different skills and perspectives. Together, they promote a culture of trust and co-operation to help us meet the energy challenges of the future.

For more than half a century, BP has made such enormous contributions to Alaska that the company has become part of the fabric of the state and it’s still one of our most important global locations. Our expert teams are currently using cutting-edge techniques to look at new ways we can extract energy. These include 3-D seismic imaging, innovative drilling techniques, and “bright water” polymer technology. In addition to an innovative work environment, our employees can enjoy Alaska’s stunning landscapes and friendly culture.

We have people in a number of different locations around Chicago. The sheer variety of our operations means we employ people with a wide range of skills and experience – leading to a culture of sharing and collaboration. But wherever they’re based, all our people gain exposure to different areas of the energy industry. As well as to Chicago itself – a truly world-class city, with unlimited opportunities for recreation, entertainment and cultural enrichment.

Our Naperville facility is the technology hub of our aviation lubricants business. The facility includes a major technology centre, where scientists and engineers develop more efficient ways of producing petrochemicals and cleaner-burning, better-performing fuels. Located in a suburb of Chicago, our Naperville employees can enjoy a superb quality of life as the area offers excellent schools, beautiful parks and a bustling downtown area.

BP has been at work in the Gulf of Mexico since the 1950s. The company holds the largest number of leases in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico and also is its largest investor over the past decade. We employ a world-class team that’s scientific, engineering and research and development capabilities helped us achieve a number of technological firsts in finding and producing oil in the deepwater Gulf.

Awards

At BP, our employees are extremely important to us. After all, it’s their dedication, expertise and fresh ideas that help us to continually develop in this challenging environment. Both in and out of the oil and gas industry outside, we’ve been recognized for our commitment to making BP a great place to work for our employees. In 2013, we were named one of the top places to work in Houston, Chicago and Toledo. In 2014, Forbes announced that our internship programme was the best in the U.S.

Social commitments

At BP, our dedication extends further than our own people. We believe we have a responsibility to invest in the development of every community in which we do business. As part of that, we fund around $60 million in academic research and recruitment activities at more than 50 U.S. universities every year. Additionally, the company donates an average of $30 million each year to community initiatives through a wide range of sponsorships, events and activities.
