Each program is designed to give you maximum exposure to our trading business. You will be working on projects with real impacts to our bottom line; each intern will be placed in a team and is expected to be an integral part of the team’s success.

Within supply and trading we offer summer internships lasting eight to twelve weeks as well 1 year placements (UK only). Our internships are designed and targeted at penultimate year students which means that when returning to university for your final year, you could have a graduate role lined up for the following year.

To secure an internship offer you will move through most, if not all of the graduate recruitment process, so we would encourage you to seek an internship in the area you hope to get a graduate job in.

What to expect

As an intern within supply and trading you will be assigned to a team that best matches your skills set and career ambitions.

You will initially attend an induction where you will meet the supply and trading intern community as well as the business sponsor for the area you are joining.

You will then join your team, taking on real responsibility and adding value from the beginning.

Throughout your internship you will gain both on the job training as well as face to face and online learning to develop both technical and soft skills. Alongside this, you will be assigned a graduate buddy for the duration of the programme; helping you to network and learn everything you need to perform in your role.

The Demurrage team forms part of the Wider Operations Team within Supply and Trading Global Oil Europe and is responsible for adding value to oil trading activities by providing expertise associated with voyage chartered tonnage, contracts of affreightment and oil contracts for both the vessel and barge markets.

As part of a team you will be responsible for adding value to BP’s oil trading activities by managing your own portfolio of demurrage claims and post fixture expenses on behalf of your trading bench. This involves payment of freight and handling Demurrage & Expense claims resulting from contracts with owners, oil majors and trading companies. You will work in close co-operation with the trading community to provide analytical information and guidance to the trading benches, in order to reduce the risk of demurrage exposure and optimise demurrage prevention to ultimately maximise trading profits.
