Brendan Nelson is a chartered accountant. He was made a partner of KPMG in 1984. He served as a member of the UK board of KPMG from 2000 to 2006, subsequently being appointed vice chairman until his retirement in 2010. At KPMG International he held a number of senior positions including global chairman, banking and global chairman, financial services. He served for six years as a member of the Financial Services Practitioner Panel and in 2013 was the president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland.
Relevant skills and experience
Over the course of his career, Brendan Nelson has completed a wide variety of audit, regulatory and due-diligence engagements. He played a significant role in the development of the profession’s approach to the audit of banks in the UK with particular emphasis on establishing auditing standards. He continues to contribute in his role as a member of the Financial Reporting Review Panel. This wide experience makes him ideally suited to chair the audit committee and to act as its financial expert and he brings related input from his role as the chair of the audit committee of a major bank. His specialism in the financial services industry allows him to contribute insight into the challenges faced by global businesses by regulatory frameworks.
