Brendan Nelson is a chartered accountant. He was made a partner of KPMG in 1984. He served as a member of the UK board of KPMG from 2000 to 2006, subsequently being appointed vice chairman until his retirement in 2010. At KPMG International he held a number of senior positions including global chairman, banking and global chairman, financial services. He served for six years as a member of the Financial Services Practitioner Panel and in 2013 was the president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland.

Brendan Nelson’s career in audit and finance makes him ideally suited to chair the audit committee and to act as its financial expert. He held a range of senior leadership roles at KPMG giving him broad management and business experience. His specialism in the financial services industry allows him to contribute insight into the challenges faced by global businesses by regulatory frameworks. Brendan brings related input from his role as the chair of the audit committee of a major bank and as a member of the Financial Reporting Review Panel.
