BP in the Netherlands
The Netherlands has remarkable natural resources – not least its people. We’re using Dutch know-how to harness energy from gas, oil, wind and solar power

What we do
BP started working in the Netherlands in 1904. More than a hundred years later, our Netherlands business concentrates on refining and marketing fuels and lubricants as well as marketing gas. We also run some major renewable energy projects.
Our import/export terminal in Amsterdam has one of the port's largest storage capacities and includes facilities for storing, blending and upgrading products.
Our gas business supplies propane, butane and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) to our own service stations, as well as to other energy companies in the Netherlands.
We have a network of around 370 service stations, making us one of the largest operators in the industry. We also supply Castrol and BP branded lubricants for motorists, business, industry and agriculture.
Through Air BP, we provide jet fuels and lubricants at international and regional airports. As BP Marine, we supply fuels, lubricants and technical services to shipping companies and the fishing industry.
We’ve built a 22.5 megawatt wind farm at the BP Raffinaderij Rotterdam, which generates enough electricity for 20,000 homes and saves 20,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions a year.
A 9 megawatt wind farm has been built at our Amsterdam terminal. The project has the capacity to power 5,000 Dutch homes and will save 5,000 tonnes of CO2 annually.
Our people
We own BP Raffinaderij Rotterdam, situated at Europoort, near Rotterdam.
The refinery has the largest annual production capacity in Europe – some 400,000 barrels of crude oil a day – and produces a wide range of finished and intermediate products. The storage capacity is an enormous 4.3 million cubic metres.
We employ around 2,200 people in the Netherlands.
Community investment
When it comes to helping the communities where we live and work, our focus is on education. We want to give people new skills and also to teach them about energy and the important role it plays in their lives.
That’s why we’ve launched our Knowledge for Kids programme which is focused on primary school children, as well as the Young Energy Project which is focused on secondary schools.
Our renewable energy projects are helping the environment in two ways. Not only are they minimizing our impact on the environment, but they’re also offering an example to other companies who might follow our lead.
