The Future Leaders Programme (FLP) is designed to develop talented, ambitious people and help them grow to their full potential

In our FLP, you’ll become an important part of our ever-evolving business. It’s an accelerated development programme open to professionals with bold aspirations, true determination, and a flexible outlook to work anywhere in the world.

As a future leader, you’ll have access and exposure to our senior leaders who’ll advise, support and guide you on your journey. We’ll offer you unmatched opportunities to develop to your full potential in our Downstream (Refining & Marketing) business, Human Resources or Information Technology & Services (IT&S).

The programme

We believe that enthusiastic people with new ideas and fresh energy are key to ensuring our global business stays ahead of the industry. That’s why the FLP is vital to our progress.

The FLP runs over two 18-24 month rotations. We’ll ask you to share your ambitions, strengths and ideas, and together, we’ll tailor the best development programme to suit and stretch you. You’ll be given real responsibility plus exposure to our business and the global energy industry. What’s more, you’ll be part of a close, supportive FLP community that regularly connects across countries, joining together at dedicated events, conferences and ongoing virtual meetings.

If you have the initiative, you’ll have the freedom to define how you want to progress within an organisation that’s committed to supporting your talents. Our FLP will help you reach your goals.

Our requirements

Along with a postgraduate degree (MBA, PhD, MSc or MA) you’ll need at least three years’ professional experience. We’re proud of our diversity, so there’s no single mould for our leaders. However, those that benefit the most from the FLP are people who are flexible self-starters with real initiative to drive their career; people who are adaptable to an environment that evolves as their experience grows.

We look for leaders who listen and are comfortable giving and receiving feedback; those who are respectful of the people they work with, and have the courage to speak up when something isn’t right or could be better. If you’re eager to learn, open to new ideas, determined to succeed and able to build strong professional relationships, then you have precisely what we look for in a future leader.

Training and development

We pride ourselves on providing the right support so you can achieve your full potential. You’ll receive structured training through our leadership development programmes, as well as more technical subjects related to your discipline. You’ll also have a dedicated mentor and real access to our senior leaders. With your level of ambition and initiative, we expect you to actively seek feedback from them in order to shape and drive your development forward. There will also be opportunities to attend annual conferences and events to help you network and share experiences with people who are as bright and capable as you are.
