Working in Canada
Our perspective in Canada is to strengthen our development, marketing and trading expertise and give something back to the community
BP in Canada is discovering the energy potential of the oil sands, has exploration licences offshore and is one of the country’s largest energy traders – creating flexible, long-term career opportunities for people like you.
BP’s Canadian headquarter is in Calgary, the primary office for our upstream business, our North America Gas & Power (NAGP) business and a large Global Oil Americas team that is involved in trading, marketing and origination activities.
BP in Canada focuses on in-situ development of energy from Canada’s oil sands, located in north-eastern Alberta. Tapping our vast experience in producing oil and gas from reservoirs in challenging environments, our upstream business is also pursuing offshore opportunities in the Beaufort Sea and Nova Scotia. Our Integrated Supply and Trading (IST) business spans the country and makes us one of the top oil and natural gas marketers and traders in Canada.
In everything we do, the safety of people and operational excellence set the agenda. We are also committed to improving our environmental performance and building meaningful engagement with our stakeholders.
Join us in Calgary and you’ll be able to live and work in an attractive and dynamic city situated on the banks of the Bow River and close to Alberta's majestic Rocky Mountains. A product of oil culture, Calgary today is a vibrant city of more than one million people, which offers plenty to see and do.
We need the best professionals to help us deliver precious oil resources to meet current and future energy needs in the most effective, innovative and responsible way.
Join our 400-strong workforce and you’ll be working alongside some of the most skilled and dedicated people in the energy industry, including professionals with SAGD experience, who are working to create a secure energy future both locally and globally.
BP in the community
BP Canada invests in people and programmes that pursue sustainable and long-lasting progress in three key areas: education, environment and the community. Giving back to communities has been part of BP’s culture for over 90 years, with our employee and retiree volunteers serving as the driving force behind our initiatives.
Whether it’s surprising classrooms with the news they’ve won $10,000 to implement energy education projects through BP’s A+ for Energy programme, donating to our annual United Way Campaign or supporting our many other community initiatives, BP employees are always eager to get involved. BP recognizes and supports employees who donate to charities or volunteer by matching funds through an employee matching programme.

Networking and socializing
There are plenty of opportunities to get involved in life at BP, socialize with colleagues and learn from them. Besides wellness events and volunteer opportunities, we hold various social club events. In the past, events have included movie nights and BP family picnics, and we have been able to offer discounted tickets to various events around Calgary.
Our BP Canada Women’s Network aims to empower women to reach their full potential. We also run ‘townhalls’, which involve presentations by leadership teams followed by discussion.
Compressed schedules and flex days
Employees in the upstream business in Canada follow a 9/80 work schedule, which consists of 9-hour days on Mondays through Thursdays. Every other Friday is an eight-hour day and the alternate Friday is a day off. In addition, the upstream business offers three flex days per calendar year.
Employees in our IST business work a Monday-to-Friday schedule and are eligible to take 11 flex days per calendar year.
Learning and development
As we continue to grow, even more emphasis will be placed on world-class learning and development to develop your skills and expertise in line with your aspirations. The success of our business in Canada and the success of our employees go hand in hand. So we’ll make sure you have access to structured courses, online learning, mentors and other methods for ensuring you continue along a flexible career path. Where possible, we’ll support you to gain qualifications relevant to your field. Our performance management process sets clear, achievable objectives and tracks the progress made.
Diversity and inclusion
We work as one team, bringing together people from a range of backgrounds whose different perspectives enrich our business. That’s why we value diversity and inclusion. Everyone at BP is treated fairly, with respect, and is encouraged to voice their opinion. Each member of the team knows what is expected of them and is given every opportunity to realize their potential in a pleasant, supportive and collaborative environment.
