Developing, marketing or trading energy will give you the challenge you need

BP in Canada is discovering the energy potential of the oil sands, has exploration licences offshore and is one of the country’s largest energy traders – creating superb career opportunities for you.

Careers Working in Canada

Based in Calgary, Alberta, BP Canada focuses on in-situ development of energy from Canada’s oil sands, located in north-eastern Alberta. Tapping our vast experience in producing oil and gas from reservoirs in challenging environments, our Upstream business is also pursuing offshore opportunities in the Beaufort Sea and Nova Scotia. Our IST business spans the country and makes us one of the top oil and natural gas marketers and traders in Canada.

In everything we do, we put the safety of people and operational excellence above all else. We are also committed to improving our environmental performance and meaningful engagement with our stakeholders.

Join us in Calgary and you’ll be able to live and work in an attractive and dynamic city situated on the banks of the Bow River and close to Alberta's majestic Rocky Mountains. A product of oil culture, Calgary today is a vibrant city of more than one million which offers plenty to see and do.

Opportunities

We need the best professionals to help us deliver precious oil resources in the most effective, innovative and responsible way.

Our 400-strong workforce consists of some of the most skilled and dedicated people in the energy industry, including professionals with SAGD experience, who are working to create a secure energy future both locally and globally. Our headquarters are in Calgary, the primary office for our Upstream business, our North America Gas & Power (NAGP) business and a large Global Oil Americas team that is involved in trading, marketing and origination activities.

We provide opportunities for employees to build their careers and realize their potential.

BP in the community

BP Canada invests in people and programs that pursue sustainable and long-lasting progress in three key areas: education, environment and the community. Giving back to communities has been part of BP’s culture for over 90 years, with our employee and retiree volunteers serving as the driving force behind our initiatives.

Whether it’s surprising classrooms with the news they’ve won $10,000 to implement energy education projects through BP’s A+ for Energy program, donating to our annual United Way Campaign or supporting our many other community initiatives, BP employees are always eager to get involved. BP recognizes and supports employees who donate to charities or volunteer by matching funds through an employee matching program.

Networking and socializing

There are plenty of opportunities to get involved in life at BP, socialize with colleagues and learn from them.  Besides wellness events and volunteer opportunities, we hold various social club events. In the past, events have included movie nights and BP family picnics, and we have been able to offer discounted tickets to various events around Calgary.

Our BP Canada Women’s Network aims to empower women to reach their full potential. We also run ‘townhalls’, which involve presentations by leadership teams followed by discussion.

Compressed schedules and flex days

Employees in the Upstream business in Canada follow a 9/80 work schedule, which consists of 9-hour days on Mondays through Thursdays. Every other Friday is an eight-hour day and the alternate Friday is a day off. In addition, the Upstream Business offers three flex days per calendar year.

Employees in our Integrated Supply and Trading (IST) business work a Monday-to-Friday schedule and are eligible to take 11 flex days per calendar year.

Learning and development

As we continue to grow, even more emphasis will be placed on learning and development. Our employees have access to structured courses, online learning, mentors and other methods for ensuring continuing development. Where possible, we provide support to our employees to gain qualifications relevant to their field. Our performance management process sets clear, achievable objectives and tracks the progress made.

Diversity and inclusion

People from different backgrounds and with different perspectives enrich our business. That’s why we value diversity and inclusion. BP strives to ensure that all of its employees are treated fairly and with respect, know what is expected of them and are given every opportunity to realize their potential in a pleasant and supportive environment.
