2016

  • September - First Shah Deniz 2 platform jacket was sent offshore Business updates Features
  • August - ACG produced its three billionth barrel of oil since the start of production from the Chirag platform in 1997
  • May - BP and SOCAR signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly explore potential prospects in block D230 in the North Absheron Basin in the Azerbaijan sector of the Caspian Sea
  • May - the subsea construction vessel "Khankendi” was re-floated into the Caspian Sea at the Baku Shipyard quay

  • September - the two hull sections for a subsea construction vessel named Khankendi left Singapore heading to the Caspian Sea
  • September-3000th tanker loaded with BTC oil sailed away from Ceyhan
  • February-Central Azeri celebrated its 10-year anniversary

2014

  • December - BP and SOCAR signed a PSA on the joint exploration and development of potential prospects in the shallow water area around the Absheron peninsula
  • June - We partnered with the Baku European Games Operating Committee to support the 2015 European Games in Baku and invest in building the capability of the nation’s young people
  • September - With host governments, partners and other stakeholders, we celebrated the 20th Anniversary of the ‘Contract of the Century’ and held a ground-breaking ceremony for the Southern Gas Corridor
  • April - Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan celebrated the loading of 2,500th tanker at the Ceyhan terminal
  • January - Production at West Chirag started from one of the pre-drilled wells and this completed the Chirag oil project, which had been sanctioned in 2010

2013

  • December - Final investment decision for the Stage 2 development of the Shah Deniz was announced
  • September - Shah Deniz consortium concluded 25-year gas sales agreements with European buyers
  • September - The topsides for the West Chirag platform were safely installed offshore onto the jacket
  • June - Shah Deniz consortium announced selection of the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) as a transportation route to Europe.

2012

  • October - BTC celebrated the loading of 2,000th tanker at Ceyhan
  • May - ACG celebrated 2 billionth barrel of oil produced since first oil
  • January - Shafag-Asiman completed the first 3D seismic survey

2011

  • October - Shah Deniz gas sales and transit agreements signed in Turkey
  • May - New PSA for the Shafag-Asiman structure ratified by the Azerbaijani Parliament

2010

  • December - Five-year extension from 2031 to 2036 to the Shah Deniz PSA signed
  • October - PSA signed with SOCAR to explore and develop the Shafag-Asiman structure
  • September - One billionth barrel of crude oil carried successfully through BTC pipeline
  • March - $6 billion investment sanctioned for the Chirag oil project

2009

  • March - BTC capacity expanded to 1.2 million barrels per day

2008

  • April - First oil produced at Deepwater Gunashli

2007

  • November - Large gas-condensate discovery made at Shah Deniz following drilling to a Caspian-record depth of more than 7,300 metres
  • July - First gas delivered from Shah Deniz to Turkey
  • March - BTC 1 million barrels per day capacity achieved

2006

  • December - First gas produced from Shah Deniz Stage 1
  • November - First profit oil produced at East Azeri
  • July - Inauguration of Turkish section of the BTC pipeline, Ceyhan terminal and the BTC pipeline export system
  • June - First tanker filled with Caspian oil at Ceyhan marine terminal
  • May - First gas flowed into the SCP

2005

  • December - Production at West Azeri started
  • May - Inauguration of Azerbaijani section of the BTC pipeline
  • February - Production at Central Azeri started

2004

  • October - Construction of South Caucasus gas pipeline (SCP) commenced
  • September - ACG Phase 3 sanctioned

2003

  • April - Construction of Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline began
  • February - Shah Deniz Stage 1 sanctioned

2002

  • September - ACG Phase 2 sanctioned

2001

  • August - ACG Phase 1 sanctioned

1998

  • December - Western Route Export Pipeline operations started

  • November - First oil produced from the Chirag field

  • June - Shah Deniz PSA signed

1995

  • February - Azerbaijan International Operating Company (AIOC) formed

1994

  • September - Azeri-Chirag-Deepwater Gunashli (ACG) production sharing agreement (PSA) signed by BP, its co-venturers and the government of Azerbaijan.
