BP has supported Para sport for nine years and was a major partner of the London 2012 Games. BP is a partner of the International Paralympic Committee and a number of National Paralympic Committees around the world
Now, as a sponsor of the World Para Athletics Championships London 2017, BP is using its support of the Games to ignite the #EnergyWithin a group of aspiring athletes and media students.
“BP is inspired by the inner strength and determination that exists within Para athletes. That’s what we mean by the energy within,” says Duncan Blake, BP’s global brand director. “We think this energy can be ignited in us all and lead us to achieve excellence in our chosen pursuits. So that’s why this month we’re giving a group of young people the chance to be mentored by those at the very top of their field – such as six-time Paralympic champion David Weir and award-winning Paralympic correspondent Gareth A Davies. Once the energy within is ignited in these young people, we hope that they’ll feel a desire to ignite it in others.”
BP is giving a group of six young people the chance to be mentored by those at the very top of their field across two days:
- Tuesday 4th July 2017: Training Day at Lee Valley Athletics Centre
- Saturday 15th July 2017: World Para Athletics Championships at the London Stadium
The training day, held at Lee Valley Athletics Centre, will give our aspiring T54 athletes a unique chance to learn from David and his coach Jenny Archer, with the day featuring a technical track session as well as classroom-based workshops on strength and conditioning and preparation.
Meanwhile, our student journalist, photographer and filmmaker will capture the action through the day – in the form of interviews, photographs and video – that will feature in The Telegraph throughout their coverage of the World Para Athletics Championships London 2017.
