BP donates 100,000 gallons of gasoline to Harris County and the City of Houston for first responders

Release date: September 7, 2017

HOUSTON – BP donated 100,000 gallons of gasoline to Harris County’s Office of Emergency Management and the City of Houston in support of first responders in the Houston area as response activities and cleanup efforts continue. The effort is a part of the company’s ongoing commitment to help the city and region recover from Hurricane Harvey.

The gasoline donation follows a previous 100,000 gallons of fuel donated to first responders in the Houston area last week.

“I’ve been overwhelmed by the courage and compassion shown by first responders across the region helping thousands of people in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey," said John Mingé, chairman and president of BP America. "As part of our commitment to the communities where our people live and work, we hope this donation will continue to help support the ongoing recovery efforts.”

BP worked closely with Harris County’s Office of Emergency Management and the City of Houston to provide the donation. In addition, BP and the BP Foundation have donated $750,000 to help provide flood victims with food, water, health services and shelter in Houston and surrounding Texas communities. The money is being divided equally among the American Red Cross, the United Way of Greater Houston, and the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund, administered by the Greater Houston Community Foundation.

Also, the BP Foundation now is matching employee gifts to eligible Harvey-related organizations at a 2:1 rate.

Houston is home to BP’s U.S. headquarters and the single-largest concentration of BP employees anywhere in the world, with roughly 4,500 people in the region. In Texas, BP directly employs nearly 6,000 people and spends more than $9.2 billion with local businesses, supporting 28,000 jobs in the state.
