Time at BP: One year

A wider understanding, a stronger network

"The programme gives you a much wider focus. When I joined BP, I wanted to be part of a company that makes something – that has a production line. I was attracted by the personalities and drive of the people I met from BP. Before I started, I thought I had a global outlook. But now I’m really learning how to work with people who have perspective and personalities different from mine. For me, learning is about other people, but for others a book or a course can be more important. Because I’m in the programme, there are so many people who take an interest in me and include me. My mentor has also helped me establish a network – he’s been a big help and a great advocate. The programme is a community. When I started my current rotation, I contacted someone else on the programme and they really welcomed me."

"In the future, I would like to create a new business stream or introduce a new product into a region. Sometimes, you have to go outside your comfort zone – and the programme lets you do that."
