At BP, we believe that strong teams support outstanding individual performances. We look for leaders who listen and are as comfortable both giving and receiving feedback. The ability to communicate with different people, respect different ideas and listen to new viewpoints are all essential, as is determination and resilience.
At BP, we take pride in our diversity, so there’s no single mould for our leaders. Different people respond to leadership styles in different ways. What works for one, might not work as well for another. Our leaders should respect the people they work with. They should be able to relate to people, to care for them and to be supportive. We want people to have the courage to speak up when something isn’t right or could be better. Our leaders should foster that attitude.
We’re looking for people with post-graduate degrees in disciplines relevant to R&M or IT&S, upwards of 3 years professional experience and demonstrated leadership capabilities.
You rotate into two roles with real responsibilities that last between 18 and 24 months. You also benefit from structured training and development, a mentor, opportunities to network and exposure to our global business. FLP is a structured, organised entry vehicle into BP. It’s a mechanism to get to know BP. It gives you the support you need to grow with BP.
Just click on the Apply Now button and fill in the online application. If you meet our requirements, we’ll invite you to a telephone interview and following that a face-to-face interview. The final stage will be an assessment centre.
We’ll invest in your development by providing a combination of technical education modules and courses aimed at developing your leadership capabilities - including communication, presentation and management skills. Our goal is to give you transferable skills. You’ll also be supported by mentoring, networking and project opportunities.
The role of your mentor is really two–fold. First, he or she can help you build relationships with people in BP so you can start to create your own professional network. Second, your mentor will be an established leader who can share their experience and insights. You’ll be able to ask them questions openly and informally. Your mentor will help you learn about BP and what it means to be a leader.
FLP is designed to provide you with the skills and experience you'll need to progress within BP. Following the programme, we’ll help you into your next role where you can continue to develop you skills and progress in your business area.
FLP is a global programme. If you meet our requirements, you can apply to join FLP where you are eligible to work provided we have opportunities in that location. FLP currently operates in the US, Southern Africa and across Europe & Asia, and is expected to expand into countries such as Brazil and Australia in 2013.
Applications are now closed for 2012.
We shall reopen for applications in September 2013.

Following a successful application, you can join BP through 2013. There’s some flexibility on dates – depending on your circumstances and business requirements.
To recruit and retain the best future leaders, BP offers a generous and flexible reward package. Our starting salaries are highly competitive, with opportunities for additional financial rewards linked to company, team and individual performance. There are comprehensive benefits, too, including health and retirement plans. As for work-life balance, we think of ourselves as setting the standard in helping people manage both their work and their personal lives. At BP, we think great performance deserves great reward.
