SECURITY ALERT – Fraudulent Scam in Circulation

Please be aware that there is a Scam currently circulating in New Zealand that advises recipients of a "Winning Notification" in relation to a BP Promotions Webmail Sweepstake programme. It confirms a lump sum payout of 750,000 pounds sterling and asks the receiver to make contact via a "luckymail.com" email address. It is a reasonably authentic looking document on letterhead, containing BP logo and reference numbers. It is signed by a Mr Larry Mills (Public Relations Officer, BP Promotions Regional Office).

Please note, this scam has nothing to do with BP and we are unaware of its' origin. We have advised the appropriate people within the organisation via the correct channels, and appropriate internal action has been taken.

The Ministry of Consumer Affairs runs a site called Scamwatch and we recommend that you report any incidents of this nature, or any other scams through this website. This may enable the authorities to track down the origin of the scam and deal with it appropriately.
