BP pledges $175,000 to help the nation’s volunteers

Release Date: 19 June 2012

BP New Zealand has again launched its ‘BP Vouchers for Volunteers’ programme, offering over $175,000 worth of fuel to recognise the thousands of volunteers who donate their time and energy to helping others.

Volunteer organisations from all over the country are being invited to apply for the programme, which offers a helping hand to a diverse range of people and organisations who donate their time to help others.

“Our Vouchers for Volunteers programme is now in its seventh successful year and BP has been able to help more than 2,500 organisations during that time,” said BP Managing Director Matt Elliott. “We’re very proud of that achievement”.

“Every day, thousands of volunteers throughout the country give up their spare time to help others who are less fortunate. These volunteers are an essential part of our society and this is our way of saying thank you”.

“Again this year we expect to receive a huge number of applications from every corner of the country and it’s great to see that local community support is alive and well right around New Zealand,” Mr Elliott said.

Last year, BP received close to 2000 applications. “There are so many people who give generously of their own time and by BP donating our fuel gift cards to volunteer organisations, we can do our bit to help out.” he said.

Plant to Plate Aotearoa in the Manawatu received $5,000 last year, a windfall that director Gaewyn Grant said was a great help. “BP’s generosity really helped us out. The volunteers from Plant to Plate Aotearoa cover a broad area, so those vouchers helped us continue to teach the local school children valuable life skills around healthy cooking and healthy eating. It was a really nice gesture for the outstanding volunteers we have here.”

Any registered charities or volunteer organisations that rely on voluntary assistance, and use vehicles are eligible to apply. For an application form and full eligibility criteria please visit www.bp.co.nz. Applications close 15th July 2012.

Successful applicants will be advised by email and on our website (www.bp.co.nz) during the week ending 19th August 2012.
