Wamsutter gets infrastructure boost with $3 million from BP America
Release date:
02 November 2009
Wamsutter, Wyo BP America delivered a $3 million check to the town of Wamsutter and when matched with money from the state of Wyoming, the community’s most basic infrastructure needs will get a financial boost.
The donation will be used to help Wamsutter build 14 infrastructure projects including a rural healthcare clinic, water and sewer upgrades, street improvements and a commercial center. Wamsutter officials have worked closely with BP to identify the highest priority needs of the community and to develop a plan to address them. These projects will help carry out that plan.
"Wamsutter and BP have built a unique and valuable partnership” said Fred Lemond, BP’s operations manager for Wamsutter. “It’s in BP’s interest to help Mayor Waldner, the town council, and the residents of Wamsutter continue to make this a great place to live and work. BP plans to be here – and we want our employees to live here – for a very long time.”
Governor Dave Freudenthal championed the request for state matching funds after meeting with Wamsutter officials and BP representatives to discuss the town’s growth plans and needs. Then, in March of 2009, the Wyoming Legislature agreed to the Governor’s supplemental request based in part on the strong financial commitment by BP.
Mayor Ken Waldner who accepted the donation on behalf of the Town, said, “We are really excited about the continuation of the partnership between BP and the community of Wamsutter as we move forward building a sustainable community. Without the commitment and investment that BP has made, the state funding would not have been available. Governor Freudenthal and our state legislators also helped make this happen and we are very grateful for their interest in our Town.”
