Track tests - Parallel parking
Aim
To test the driver's ability to park parallel to a simulated kerb.Dimensions
Width of parking space: 2.6mLength of parking space: • Rigid: according to Table 1 • Articulated vehicles: according to table 2 The length of the parking space is determined by adding the total length of the vehicle as indicated in the top column, to the comparative free play in metres, as shown in the bottom column. For example: Length of Rigid Vehicle A is 9 metres – therefore the total length of the parking space is: Length of Vehicle + specified free play = 9 m + 1.8 m = 10.8m.
Rigid Vehicles:
Length of vehicle: 7.0-7.5m / 1.50m free play
7.6 - 8.0m / 1.60m
8.1 - 8.5m / 1.70m
8.6 - 9.0m / 1.80m>br /> 9.1 - 9.5m / 1.90m>br /> 9.6 - 10.0m / 2.00m
10.1 - 10.5m / 2.10m
10.6 - 11.0 / 2.20m
11.1 - 11.5 / 2.30m
11.6 - 12.0m / 2.40m
12.1 - 12.5m / 2.50m
Articulated Vehicles:
Length of vehicle: 10.0 - 11.0m / 1.60m free play
11.1 - 12.0m / 1.70m
12.1 - 13.0m / 1.90m
13.1 - 14.0m / 2.00m
14.1m - 15.0m / 2.20m
15.1 - 16.0m / 2.30m
16.1 - 17.0m / 2.50
The driver shall reverse into a parking space and park parallel to the simulated kerb. Each driver is permitted to realign or stop once, while parking, without a penalty being deducted.
(NB: Any change of direction within a parking space in order to reach a final parked position shall be regarded as realignment). The tread of any left / right hand tyre nearest to the kerb and in contact with the road surface may not be further than 1m from the kerb.
(NB: Any change of direction within a parking space in order to reach a final parked position shall be regarded as realignment). The tread of any left / right hand tyre nearest to the kerb and in contact with the road surface may not be further than 1m from the kerb.
Scoring
A maximum of 50 points. The driver’s final score is determined on the basis of their parked position, for which they obtain a specific score from which any appropriate penalties are deducted.Method of measuring
The score is determined by measuring the distance from the kerb to the centre of the vehicle’s front or rear wheel on the kerb side, whichever is the furthest from the kerb. The two points from which the measurement is taken, are as follows:- Rear: Directly opposite the centre of the rear wheel
- Front: Directly opposite the centre of the front wheel. The distance furthest from the kerb is the final parked position from which the score is determined. The test is complete when the measurements have been taken.
Distance from the kerb
1-100mm = 50 points101-200mm = 45 points
201-300mm = 40 points
301-400mm = 35 points
401-500mm = 30 points
501-600mm = 25 points
601-1000mm = 20 points
Penalties
5 points shall be deducted for an unauthorised stop or realignment.50 points shall be deducted if:
- any wheel touches the kerb;
- the obstacles are struck when entering;
- the tread of any left/right-hand tyre nearest the kerb and in contact with the road surface is further than 1m from the kerb.
