Skarv FPSO on location in the Norwegian Sea

Skarv FPSO Release Date: 15 August 2011
Sunday 14th August Skarv FPSO arrived on location in the Norwegian Sea
Prior to the departure from Halsnøyfjord the first CHS crew change helicopter landed on Skarv. The Helideck crew was briefed by the pilots on the type of helicopter used (S-92). There will be five weekly crew change flights to Skarv from the Brønnøysund heliport. This is in addition to the daily crew change flights to the drilling rig Polar Pioneer. The rig is currently drilling on the Skarv field for BP.

On location Skarv FPSO is hooked up to 15 suction anchors with high strength chain and wires that will be connected to the vessel's turret, - an operation expected to last up to 12 days. This involves the use of two installation vessels deploying ROV operations. The anchor system will keep the vessel on location whilst the thrusters will ensure the vessel is kept in the best possible position versus wind and waves to be as stable as possible. Once installed the vessel will be under the supervison of Petroleum Safety Authority and no longer the Maritime authorities. Following installation work will continue with preparing for hook up of flow lines expected to take place during September. This operation is demanding and critical for meeting the planned production start up during 4Q this year.
