Former United States Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle to chair the Tangguh Independent Advisory Panel (TIAP)
Release date:
17 June 2011
BP is pleased to announce that former United States Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle will chair the Tangguh Independent Advisory Panel (TIAP). Senator Daschle will work with current Panel member, Bapak Augustinus Rumansara, who is based in Jayapura, Papua, Indonesia.
Senator Tom Daschle, a Democrat from South Dakota who served both in the House of Representatives and the Senate , is one of the longest serving Senate Democratic Leaders in history and the only one to serve twice as both Majority and Minority Leader. He is currently a Senior Policy Advisor at the law firm of DLA Piper and a member of its global board. In 2007, Senator Daschle joined with former United States Senate Majority Leaders George Mitchell, Bob Dole and Howard Baker to create the Bipartisan Policy Center, an organization dedicated to finding common ground on some of the pressing public policy challenges of our time. He serves on the board of the Center for American Progress and the National Democratic Institute and is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. Senator Daschle is a member of the Health Policy and Management Executive Council at the Harvard School of Public Health as well the Global Policy Advisory Council for the Health Worker Migration Initiative.
Senator Daschle will chair the second phase of the TIAP, which was previously chaired during the construction phase by former United States Senate Majority Leader George Mitchell. BP believes additional ongoing independent monitoring and external advice will continue to be useful for the sustained success of Tangguh LNG and to BP’s goal of ensuring that Tangguh be a model for world class development. Both Senator Daschle and August Rumansara will help to oversee Tangguh’s long term performance, focusing on the non-technical risks associated with Tangguh operations in Papua.
TIAP has chosen to continue to employ Gary Klein and the law firm DLA Piper for its independent legal and secretariat services. Gary Klein and the Panel can be contacted on tiap@tangguh.net.
