Release date:
19 September 2012
BP in partnership with local emergency service organisations will be holding an emergency exercise at its fuel terminal at Hubert Street South, Townsville on Thursday 20th September.
The emergency exercise is based upon a scenario of petrol from a leaking tank catching fire. Personnel from BP, the Fire Brigade, Police and Ambulance services will attend and test their current response plans.
According to BP’s Terminals manager, Geoff Gruebner, safety starts with prevention, but it also includes being fully prepared to deal with any situation.
“This exercise is part of BP’s commitment to the protection of public safety and the environment,” said Mr Gruebner.
The exercise will start at 10.00 and finish around 12.30 and all communication during the drill will be clearly marked “Exercise, Exercise.”
