LNG Carrier Naming Ceremony (British Sapphire)

On July 16th 2008, the naming ceremony of the latest BP fleet Gem Class LNG carrier (Hull Number 1779) was held at Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) shipyard. The said ceremony was attended by Senior BP and HHI representatives including Mr Mark Bly, Group Head of Safety & Operations and Gil-Seon Choi, president of HHI. It was named "British Sapphire" by the Madame Sponsor Mrs. Jeri Bly. On the previous day, BP hosted a pre-naming dinner at Chosun hotel in Busan in celebration of the successful fabrication.
British Sapphire is the third LNG carrier delivered among 4 Gem LNG carriers built in HHI.
The first one named British Emerald was delivered in 2007 and the second one was named British Ruby in May 2008. The last LNG carrier will be named on September 4th at Hyundai Samho Heavy Industry in Mokpo.
