BP Korea History
The BP group has had more than thirty years of success in South Korea

1970s

1974 Formed Samsung Petrochemical Co. Ltd, a joint venture with Samsung (PTA)
1977 Began marine fuels and lubricant sales business through an agent

1980s

1982 Began sales of petrochemical products
1985 Began marine lubricants blending at Michang
1987 Began auto and industrial lubricants business through a technical license agreement with the Hanwha Energy
1989 Formed Samsung BP Chemicals Co., Ltd, a joint venture with Samsung (Acetic Acid, Hydrogen)
1989 Opened lubricants blending factory in Ulsan

1990s

1995 Formed Asian Acetyls Co., Ltd, a joint venture with Samsung (Vinyl Acetate Monomer)
1997 Established BP Lubricants Korea Ltd. and started direct lubricant sales businesses to auto and industrial users
1998 BP merged with Amoco

2000s

2000 BP acquired Arco, Korea Gas team was unified
2000 Our company name was changed to BP
2001 Acquired Castrol Korea
2003 Formed K-Power, a joint venture with SK Corp (Power Generation)
2003 Samsung BP Chemicals won BP Helios Award
2004 Contracted a LNG SPA (Sales Purchase Agreement) with Posco and K Power
2004 Changed the company name to BP Korea Ltd.
2005 BP Korea won the Trade and Investment Award from BCCK
