My entire working life has been in the IT industry. After studying computer science at university, I started work as a programmer before becoming an analyst programmer, a system analyst and then to application support. I have worked on a range of different projects at BP covering application software development, deployment and on-going support; the whole development life cycle.
I joined BP after graduating from the University Science Malaysia. I enjoy working at BP and never think of moving elsewhere. I enjoy what I do and I have achieved a lot here. BP offers me good benefits and a great working environment. I have the opportunity to work with people from different countries. I have the flexibility to manage my career and family to ensure a good work-life balance. This can be very difficult to achieve in the fast moving IT Industry.
I started as a Programmer. Since then I've had a variety of roles: System analyst, Applications and Delivery manager.
My current role covers the demand and service delivery for the SAP system in the Asia Pacific region - supporting Malaysia, Singapore, Australia and New Zealand business. 'Silent running' is one of my main objectives. I also need to ensure new demands are managed and delivered according to agreed timelines and budget. I also manage the outsourced support team in India.
Working with a lot of teams outside of Malaysia, means I am on the phone a lot. To me, the interesting part of my job is working in a virtual team. Dealing with people that I never meet allows me to improve my communication skills and 'virtual interaction' capability.
One of my challenges is work-life balance. My role requires me to communicate with people across the world in different time zones. Therefore, I need to prioritize my time to ensure I can deliver.
Another big challenge for me is to ensure 'silent running' of SAP system. My team and I have to ensure system stability by having good system performance, capacity, incident and change management processes.
