What is BP Ultimate?

BP Ultimate has been designed to both remove existing deposits and keep engines clean. BP Ultimate delivers a higher level of engine cleaning performance. It not only keeps a clean engine virtually ‘like-new’ for as long as you like, it also has the ability to remove engine deposits caused by the use of regular fuels. This is possible through our advanced fuel formulation technology which includes powerful detergency properties.
Very Powerful
BP Ultimate with an octane rating of at least 98 is New Zealand’s highest octane unleaded fuel. The octane number of a fuel is a measure of its combustion quality and, in particular, its ability to withstand severe conditions. In order to avoid reduced vehicle performance - and even engine damage – petrol must be of an adequate octane quality for the engine. With its high octane, BP Ultimate can provide enhanced combustion, releasing energy more efficiently and improving the performance of your engine. Tests have shown that BP Ultimate can increase power in modern performance cars. In addition older engines can benefit from a higher octane fuel by protecting against engine damage.

What is 'knock' and why is it important?
In modern engines the engine management system deals with knock by de-tuning the engine to avoid it occurring. This, of course, means that your car delivers significantly reduced performance as the engine “protects” itself from the potentially harmful effects of knock. When you fill up your modern car with high octane BP Ultimate, the sensor will detect the first signs of knock and make the opposite adjustment, retuning your engine for optimal performance and power.
BP Ultimate has a Research Octane Number (RON) of 98. Ordinary petrol sold in New Zealand has an octane of 91 and premium petrol, 95. This difference in octane quality means that with BP Ultimate you can expect your engine to work more efficiently to deliver improved performance while protecting your engine.
