Soul City, the multimedia HIV/AIDS edutainment intervention that has been supported by BP in South Africa since inception, is going to be rolled out into Botswana, Namibia, Lesotho, Swaziland, Malawi and Mozambique next year. It will be rolled out to other African countries thereafter. Funding for this has been secured from the Dutch Government and DFFID who will provide the majority of the financial support.
BP will act as commercial sponsor for this roll out in that it will fund exposure via the TV program as well as radio and printed material. This is expected to be an initial investment of some R1.5 million to which we have made a committment. In-country promotions, at this stage, will need to be financed by each associate.
Soul City will take on separate partners in each country as well name changes, still to be decided, that are appropriate to each country. The way forward is still under development as the complexities are many and varied, for instance, the use of local country suppliers for the material and the clarification of distribution logistics.
