BP in Australia
With a burgeoning export market for liquefied natural gas and an increasing appetite for clean fuels, BP Australia is investing more and more down under
What we do
BP has worked in Australia since 1919. Today, we’re involved in a whole range of activities, such as exploring natural gas and crude oil resources. We also refine and market petroleum products, produce lubricants, and help to generate a significant amount of solar power. Our crude oil refineries at Kwinana in Western Australia and Bulwer Island in Queensland are flourishing, having been upgraded to produce some of the cleanest fuels available in Australia – putting us well ahead of the competition.
We also make and market BP and Castrol lubricants. Castrol is one of Australia’s market leaders providing world-class quality lubricants for the local market.
We also have a network of almost 1,400 service stations throughout Australia, including a number of 24-hour truckstops on the country’s major highways.
BP Australia’s current exploration and production activities are predominantly focused on the North West Shelf Venture, which accounts for 80% of Australia’s liquefied natural gas production (LNG) and almost 25% of Australia’s crude oil production.
BP Solar has been operating in Australia for over 20 years and is one of the largest suppliers of solar power to both regional and metropolitan centres.
Our people and partners
Over 6000 people work for BP in Australia of which 39% are women.Given the increasing competition for talent and skills, BP is taking steps to demonstrate the attractions of a BP career to potential employees at all levels. We work hard to ensure we recruit the right people and to provide a working environment which encourages employees to stay within the business and develop their skills. The tightness of the Australian labour market means that we have every incentive to retain our staff.
