BP in the United Kingdom
With our global headquarters in London and operations across the country, the UK is the hub of the entire BP business
What we do
BP operates in locations along the entire length of the UK, from Sullom Voe in the Shetlands to Hamble on the South Coast of England. We also have a chemical manufacturing site at Saltend near Hull, which plays an important role in the global chemical industry as well as being the global center for Research & Technology. Our offices in the UK support these and our worldwide operations.BP's UK Exploration and Production business is based in Aberdeen and accounts for approximately 10% of the company's global production. Assets include 45 producing fields, 33 platforms and 10 pipeline systems. Our North Sea projects encompass a complete lifecycle of activity from exploration and production to decommissioning. Although now a mature province, there is still an estimated 3 billion boe (barrels of oil equivalent) reserve potential in our North Sea portfolio.
BP’s Fuels Value Chain and convenience retail business which is based in Milton Keynes provides the support and skills needed to run the 1200 BP service stations in the UK which sell a range of high quality fuels including BP Ultimate.

BP in the Community
BP has a long history of supporting the fabric of UK society. Through a focused range of partnerships, corporate sponsorships and employee volunteering programmes, we seek to:- Connect people
- Develop talent, with a particular emphasis on STEM subjects
- Build community capacity
We focus on a small number of long-term partnerships with cultural organisations such as the British Museum, the National Portrait Gallery, the Royal Opera House and Tate Britain. Over 1.9m people attended a BP-supported event at one of our partner institutions or on tour during 2010.
We seek to inspire teachers and students in STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and mathematics). Through the BP Educational Service, we produce high-quality teaching resources matched to the curriculum needs of all the UK home nations. We fund teacher training programmes at the National Science Learning Centre in conjunction with the Department for Education and other industry partners. And our inspirational maths roadshow, the BP Trading Challenge, will be offered in every local authority by the time of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Using a combination of community investment and volunteering, we work to strengthen the skills and abilities of people and community groups to take effective action in the development of their communities. In particular, BP employees are coaching a range of young people to support their participation in the London 2012 Young Leaders Programme, and we are working as part of the ‘arc’ social enterprise initiative with Business in the Community to grow and develop social enterprises in East London. In 2010, our employees contributed over £2.6 million of charitable giving and 33,500 employee volunteering hours in the UK.
