BP NGL Rail Safety Awards
The Class 1 railroads in North America present awards on an annual basis to honor those shippers who meet the criteria of safely shipping a specific volume of tank cars within a calendar year with no release of regulated hazardous materials/dangerous goods due to non-accident releases. BP Products North America Inc. is one of two companies to have won BNSF's Product Stewardship Award every year since 1997 when the awards were first issued. The awards are presented to shippers who have successfully implemented the ethics of Product Stewardship under the American Chemistry Council's Responsible Care initiative.
BP has won Norfolk Southern Railway's Thoroughbred Chemical Safety Award every year since 2000 when the awards were first given. Norfolk Southern CEO Wick Moorman states, " At this time of heightened awareness regarding the safety and security of our national transportation network, these companies have demonstrated the value of rail transportation as the preferred and safest method of delivering potentially hazardous chemicals to communities everywhere. Each of these customers merits special commendation for handling high volumes of hazardous chemicals safely. Norfolk Southern is pleased that they have entrusted their business to us."
BP NGL's Sarnia and Windsor terminals have won CN's Safe Handling Award for eight of the past nine years. "CN has strict standards for handling the dangerous goods entrusted to us by our customers," said Jerry Boland, Vice-President Sales-Industrial Products. "Our customers and our employees work together to meet the day-to-day challenges of maintaining a safe operation. The CN Safe Handling Awards reward customers for thoroughness and care in handling dangerous goods. They work hard to make safety their priority, which is a goal we share."
BP West Coast Products has won Union Pacific's Chemical Transportation Safety Pinnacle Award seven times since its inception in 1996. "Our customers play an important role in preventing non-accident releases of their products and the Pinnacle Award is one way we can recognize them for their efforts in transportation safety", said Ed Sims, Vice President and General Manager - chemicals.
BP NGL's St. Clair terminal has won CSXT's Chemical Safety Excellence Award again in 2007. We have won the award for six consecutive years. BP NGL's Windsor terminal has won Canadian Pacific's Chemical Safety Shipper Award in 2007. These prestigious safety awards demonstrate BP NGL’s continued commitment to safety leadership.
