What is Natural Gas?

Natural gas flame on gas stove
Natural gas is a principal source for new power generation in North America. Cleaner burning than oil and coal, it produces 50% fewer emissions. Today, natural gas makes up more than half of BP’s energy production, making us the largest producer and supplier in the U.S.
Natural gas is a safe, efficient and environmentally friendly energy source. The rapid emergence of natural gas as a fuel of choice for electric power generation bodes well for BP, North America's largest producer of natural gas and the largest holder of natural gas reserves.

The Future

While renewable energy technologies continue to be developed, we feel natural gas can be the clean bridge to an alternative energy future. By shifting the fuel mix to cleaner burning natural gas, the U.S. could reduce emissions of CO2 by up to 53%.

Security

About 20 million households throughout the U.S. rely on natural gas from BP to provide much needed heat and power. And now, by relying on sources closer to home such as our natural gas supply in nearby Trinidad, we'll be able to deliver that energy even faster.
