BP in Mexico

Castrol drums
BP is committed to contributing to Mexico's long-term growth prospects through our current activities
Looking forward, we hope to continue building our presence and adding greater value to one of the world's leading emerging economies.

What we do

BP has operated in Mexico for more than 40 years, beginning with the marketing and distribution of Castrol lubricants in the 1960's.
Since then, our presence has grown in tandem with the opportunities offered in this dynamic and growing market.
Today, BP's operations in the country include a market leader position in Castrol lubricants. We also trade natural gas, LPG, aluminium, LNG and crude oil and products.
BP hopes to continue building our presence in Mexico and contributing with its frontier technology and experience to making Mexico one of the world's leading economies.

Our people our partners

To support our plans, we hire and train talented young people whose energy and creativity contribute to our success in the country. Our people are equally committed to their professional development as well as to the vision of one of the most world's most forward-thinking energy companies and to the sustainable development of Mexico.
Our main offices are located in Mexico City, with additional offices in Guadalajara, Monterrey and Tijuana, as well as representatives across the country.

Community investment

BP is committed to working with the communities where we operate to help improve the quality of life of their inhabitants. Mexico is no exception.
In line with BP's goals of supporting the "Three E's" (energy, education and enterprise), BP Mexico is involved in a number of projects that contribute to making life better for many Mexicans.
For the past four years, BP has been the principal supporter of JEMAC - Jóvenes Empresarios de México, an affiliate of the Prince of Wales Trust-backed Youth Business International. The programme identifies young aspiring entrepreneurs whose business ideas have the potential to prosper with the help of professional mentoring and financial backing. BP executives have mentored dozens of successful projects which today employ hundreds of Mexicans.
One of BP's most ambitious projects involves the conservation and creation of artificial reefs off the coast of Mexico's famed Yucatán peninsula. The multi-year project has already rendered the establishment of new flora and fauna-rich reefs along an area of 125 km and has begun to transform the nearby local economies from subsistence fishing to sustainable eco-tourism.
BP also responds in the face of national crises. Following the devastating floods in the southeastern states of Tabasco and Chiapas, in 2007, BP immediately donated US$60,000 to the Mexican Red Cross to help in the emergency relief efforts.
BP actively participates in some of Mexico's most respected business and civic organizations whose objective is to discuss, develop and propose action items aimed at securing the country's position as one of the world's most competitive economies. These include Coparmex (Mexican Employer's Confederation), CEEG (Executive Council of Global Companies), the Comexi (Mexican Council on Foreign Affairs), Canacintra (National Manufacturing Industry Chamber), the British Chamber of Commerce and the American Chamber of Commerce.
