What we do
Our Spanish business is split into two main companies: BP Oil España,S.A.U, and BP Gas España, S.A.U, all headed by BP España, S.A.U.Through these companies, we refine and market oil products.
Our main assets in the oil business are the Castellón refinery, which can process more than 6 million tonnes a year, and our retail network of 650 service stations, the third-largest in the country. We market and sell automotive gasoline and gasoil, aviation fuels, bitumen, lubricants and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). We have a 9% share of the Spanish oil market.
BP Gas España, S.A.U. was the first international company granted access to the natural gas market in Spain when the market was first opened to competition in 1999. Since then, it has maintained an active presence in the industry, exporting gas to France, importing LNG from multiple sources, and actively participating in the development of a fully liberalized gas market.
Our people and partners
In Spain, BP employs more than 2,200 people, mainly in Madrid and at the Castellón refinery on the Mediterranean coast.BP Oil España, S.A.U, owns half of Terminales Canarios, SL, an oil products storage and distribution company in the Canary Islands. The company also has a 5% share in Compañía Logística de Hidrocarburos (CLH), the main logistical network in mainland Spain and the Balearics, and the 50% of S.L.C.A, S.L (a distribution company of oil products in airports)
In the gas business, we have 25% stakes in the Bahía de Bizkaia Gas regasification plant and the Bahía de Bizkaia Electricidad power plant.
Community investment
Education is one of the highest priorities in our community and social initiatives.We run an environmental and energy education programme for school children, initiated in 1993, at La Pedriza-Cuenca Alta del Manzanares park in Madrid alongside Reforesta (an environmental education NGO) and the Madrid Regional Government.
In higher education, we fund the BP Sustainability Chair at Comillas University in Madrid. We also offer support to Jaime I University in Castellón and fund the Rey Jaime I Science Research Award, sponsored by the Valencia Regional Government.
Elsewhere, we support the Reina Sofía School of Music for talented young students from all over the world.
