About BP in Colombia
Welcome to About BP in Colombia
Twice the size of France, Colombia is a country of booming, modern cities like Bogotá, Cali, Medellín and Barranquilla that concentrate a large portion of total population. An estimated 42 million inhabitants share Indigenous, Spanish and African heritage, making it a culturally rich, diverse and complex society that is well known for being warm to visitors and friendly to foreign investment.
Colombia's privileged tropical location makes it one of the world's most prolific sites for fauna and flora, much of which has yet to be researched. Colombia also proudly shares the Amazon Basin, responsible for producing a significant portion of the Earth's oxygen.
After a brief presence in 1965, our recent history in Colombia dates back to 1986 when we farmed into the Santiago de las Atalayas association contract.
Our main activity in Colombia is the upstream, concentrated in operating the Cusiana and Cupiagua complex. Discovered by BP in 1991 and 1993 respectively a few years after we arrived, those fields combined constitute the country's major oil find to date, and are located in the eastern department of Casanare, 200 kilometers from Colombian capital city, Bogotá.
