Environment

BP Norge is certified according to NS-EN ISO 14001, and was one of the first oil companies that introduced an environmental management system.
The company was certified for the first time in 1997. This certification is renewed each third year but annual follow up audits are performed by external independent auditor. We continuously work to reduce discharges to sea and emissions to air.
Here are some examples:

Discharges to sea:

  • Continued focus on phasing out the most environmental harmful chemicals. In 2012 we only used yellow and green production chemicals and there are only left a couple of red chemicals in use (pipeline and drilling chemicals) but these are not discharged to sea.
  • In connection with start up of new production – and hotel platform at the Valhall field a new treatment plant for purifications of produced water was installed. This combines technologies like C – tour and Epocon CFU in series. This new plant is according to Best Available technology for purification of produced water.

What BP in Norway does to reduce emissions to air:

  • The unmanned wellhead platform at Valhall and Ula fields are powered with electricity via cable from the respective field centres.
  • In 2012 Valhall started to receive power from shore, a milestone towards zero harmful emission to air. In addition closed flare on Valhall terminates routine flaring. This measure further reduces emissions to air. As of January 2013 the entre operations at Valhall field including platform drilling are powered from shore.
