BP U.S. exploration and production overview
Offshore and on, BP is one of the largest producers of oil and gas in United States and we're meeting growing American demand for clean-burning fuels.
Today, natural gas makes up more than 40 percent of our U.S. energy product, and BP is the largest producer and supplier in the United States. Our primary U.S. production operations are in Alaska, Colorado, Kansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, Wyoming and the Gulf of Mexico. Our North American Gas group also manages production in the Canadian provinces of Alberta and British Columbia.
We are committing significant capital to bring new gas resources to the North American market, particularly from Alaska and the deepwater Gulf of Mexico, as well as from around the world in the form of liquefied natural gas (LNG).
Deepwater: beyond the limits
BP is the largest acreage holder in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico, owning more than 650 gross blocks in water depths of 1,200 feet or greater. Net production currently exceeds 400 mboed.
Operations there take place at or beyond the limits of industry experience in reservoirs that lie beneath miles of mud, rock and salt topped by more than a mile of ocean. BP's Gulf of Mexico deep wells encounter high pressure and temperatures rarely encountered anywhere else in the world.
This means there are few tried and tested off-the-shelf solutions when it comes to the Gulf’s inherently difficult operational demands.
To meet these challenges, BP relies on the expertise of more than 1,100 employees with diverse backgrounds, all working towards a common goal of making BP the top producer in the region.
