Humanitarian relief
People working for BP Norway and the BP Group in general are encouraged to support relief work. The company matches the funds raised by the employees.
This has inspired employees to lend a helping hand when disaster strikes – locally as well as other places around the world. The tsunami disaster in December 2004 is a good example of this.
The tsunami disaster
BP Norway raised about 400 Norwegian kroner per employee for the tsunami victims. The amount was matched by BP and donated to the Norwegian Red Cross. In addition BP Norway donated a large sum of money for free use by Red Cross.Fund-raising campaign
The annual Norwegian telethon/fund-raising campaign has become a tradition within BP Norway as well. Employees onshore and offshore alike take part in a variety of fund-raising activities. Offshore, auctions are held, lottery tickets sold, etc., etc. in order to raise money. Similar activities take place onshore, and BP matches the funds raised by the employees.
In the spring 2005, two trucks were sent to Ukraine filled with clothes and various equipment collected among employees. The campaign was launched by employees, and in addition BP Norway donated a sum of money to cover the truck transportation from Norway to Ukraine and back. The campaign also involved tidying up offices in BP and resulted in several boxes of office equipment. The support will continue in 2006.
More than 300 sacks and boxes were collected by employees in BP-gården.
