BP's key Refining & Marketing activities in China include: retail service stations, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), automotive lubricants, industrial lubricants & services, marine fuels and lubricants, aviation fuels，acetyls, purified terephthalic acid (PTA), and paraxylene (PX).
During the last three decades, BP has built up an extensive distribution and retailing network covering many major cities and offering a strong base to expand across China. We have played an active role in China's economic development and become the leading LPG importer and operator in China and the only foreign company participating in China's aviation fuels market. At present, BP China LPG has nine joint ventures in South and East China with a total investment of over US$250 million. BP is also one of the largest foreign investors in a retail service stations network in China, running nearly 600 JV sites. Everyday we serve over 200,000 Chinese customers with our quality fuel.
Retail Service Stations
BP is working together with both PetroChina and Sinopec, the two major national oil companies in China, to acquire, build and operate 500 service stations in Guangdong and Zhejiang Provinces by 2007.
Up to now, BP - PetroChina already manages more than 400 service stations, around 200 of which operate with an 'Express' convenience store, offering Chinese consumers value added services in addition to high-quality fuel.
LPG
BP has established a strong position in LPG import and sales in China through merger and acquisition and become one of the biggest LPG importers in China.
Automotive Lubricants
BP Lubricants entered the Chinese lubricant market in 1997. With an extensive distributor network covering over 170 major cities, BP provides passenger car, commercial vehicle and motorcycle lubricants, and has a strong base to expand across China.

Marine Fuels & Lubricants
BP Marine is one of the world's leading suppliers of fuels, lubricants and related technical services to the global marine industry.
Aviation Fuels
Air BP is the world's third largest marketer of aviation fuels and has been active in China since 1991. At present, BP is the only foreign company participating in China's aviation fuels market.
Acetyls
BP's joint venture, Yangtze River Acetyls Company Limited (Yaraco), is the biggest acetic acid plant in China. BP is also a major importer of acetic acid and acetic anhydride. Imported products supply the east coast markets of Shanghai and Guangdong.
PTA
BP is one of the world's largest producers of purified terephthalic acid (PTA) – the primary raw material for polyester used to make consumer and industrial products including fibers for clothing and furnishings and packaging for food and beverages.
PX
BP is one of the largest paraxylene producers in the world, owning the largest single paraxylene (PX) unit globally. BP has developed its own proprietary technology for PX production, based on its own proprietary isomerisation catalyst and highly efficient crystallization technology.
