Naperville
Western Suburbs/Naperville Chapter
Our purpose
The Naperville Chapter of BP Volunteers (formerly AmoCares) began in 1992 with a group of Amoco retirees that lived in the various western suburbs. Members of our chapter, as in the other nine BP Volunteers chapters across the country, have always been concerned about building strong communities. Membership in the organization is open to all retirees of BP, their spouses or surviving spouse.
Members of BP Volunteers chapters participate in a wide variety of community volunteer activities, based on the interests of the retiree volunteers. Each Chapter chooses volunteer projects that meet local community needs and capitalize on specific retiree interests and talents.
Governance of the Naperville Chapter is vested in a Leadership Team. At our monthly Leadership Team meetings, the champions of each of the projects/programs in which our Chapter is involved presents a status report of current and upcoming activities of the projects and helps mobilize other volunteers of the Chapter to help in the various activities.
Projects take many forms
Our volunteers participate in one-on-one mentoring in schools and helping at local food pantries to group projects like spring clean-up at a local elderly residents facility and clothing drives and many other activities that contribute to making our communities better places to live.
We are currently involved in more than a dozen major projects. Our members participate in a host of other organizations not listed here. In 2005, our group reported volunteer activities covering 80 different programs and totaling more than 8,100 volunteer hours.
