The Northern Lights Retirees Club (formerly ARCO Alaska Alumni ) was organized in Anchorage, Alaska in 1986.

Our history

Northern Lights Retirees Club (formerly ARCO Alaska Alumni, and before that ARCO Northern Lights Retirees Club) was organized in Anchorage, Alaska in 1986.

ARCO had an active Civic Action Program (CAP) in which we retirees were invited to participate. Now, both ConocoPhillips and BP have continued that practice, and we are invited to their CAP meetings featuring local political candidates and local ballot initiatives. We are occasionally included in their CAP visits with our State Legislators in Juneau.

Our membership (now about 100) reflects the history of the industry in Alaska. Our new club By-Laws provide for including retirees and former employees of ARCO, BP, ConocoPhillips, and Alyeska Pipeline as members. Many have a background with two or more of these companies. Some of our former co-workers are now employed by BP, ConocoPhillips or Alyeska Pipeline here in Anchorage.
Past Presidents have been Charlie Ross, Chalkie Underwood, Jack White, John Regan, Ted Reiter, Jerry Moore, and for the second time, Jack White. Our current president is Richard Brooks, who has volunteered to serve again.

Events and Meetings

We publish at least 4 newsletters each year, featuring upcoming meetings. Our quarterly meetings are in March, June, August and December, dates to be announced. Lately the March meeting has been a social/technical meeting hosted by BP or ConocoPhillips. The June meeting(s) are BBQ's in Anchorage and in Sterling on the Kenai Peninsula. The August meeting is a fish fry. The December meeting is a Christmas dinner, held in Anchorage for local residents, and another in Soldotna, for those living on the Kenai Peninsula.
