West Houston ARCO Retiree Club

Our History

Our club has been in existence in excess of ten years and is very active although small. The larger retiree group is in Pasadena and is made up primarily of the refinery branch of the company.
We were all (or nearly all) part of the production and other related areas. At our height of numbers, we had 50+ members but attrition because of people moving away from Houston, from sickness and even deaths, has reduced our number considerably. We normally have 30+ in our quarterly luncheon meetings which are primarly held at the Westchase Hilton Hotel. Sometimes, we deviate from this. We also have numerous activites between those luncheons. Some years, we have had as many as 10 or 12 other activities in addition to the quarterly luncheons.

Activities

We will have our annual picnic on April 25. Our tour of Houston on May 10 will be guided by Ray Miller, a former-TV personality, who has specialized in Texas as well as Houston. Our group took a San Antonio tour with Ray Miller several years ago and are looking forward to the Houston tour.
We have been to almost every historical sight within 150 to 200 miles around Houston, we have picnics and also visit museums and interesting places in Houston. We are very lucky that the County Precincts in Houston provide free very nice buses for senior citizens to take them on these outings within the limits set out above. They do not go to gambling places or overnight trips. This great benefit to seniors has enbable our club to do things we might never have done otherwise.
