Environment

Field of flowers in US
Products made by Petrochemicals play a vital role in creating items we all use – from plastic bottles to lipstick, from tyres to sweet wrappers
We take pride in what we do and take care of our environment. These are our three goals: no accidents, no harm to people and no damage to the environment.

For example, in Hull, UK, our site management team has bi-annual meetings with representatives of the local community, who are kept informed about anything that may affect the local area.

The site also publishes “Green Challenge”, an annual magazine about the environmental performance of the site. This includes details of all emissions from the site during the previous year together with articles about our environmental performance.

“Health, Safety and Environmental performance is an integral part of our business and contributes to our goal of becoming a preferred employer, supplier and community member.” Dave EJ Harness, Works General Manager, Decatur, Alabama.

In Atlanta, BP America was awarded the 2008 Chemical Safety Excellence Award by CSX Railroad for our commitment to the Railroads Non-Accident Release Program (NAR). The NAR program is intended to eliminate exposure to CSX employees and environmental releases of hazardous materials caused by failure to properly secure tank cars. The award is given to those companies who have shipped at least 600 tank cars and have had ZERO non-accidental releases in 2008. This recognition is made possible by every employee involved in offering the tank cars to CSX. It begins with the design and maintenance of the cars and ends with the plant operators who perform their part 365 days a year. It shows our commitment to do our part day after day to keep our partners, our employees, our customers and the communities where we work and live, safe.
