Hope school
It is of utmost importance to a country's economic development that everyone is given the opportunity for education. To this end, BP sponsored the construction of seven Hope Schools in Guangdong province. Haifeng BP Hope School is one of them.
Founded in 1997, Haifeng BP Hope School became the first Hope School supported by BP. It is also an EEI (Environmental Educators' Initiative program) pilot school. BP volunteers pay visits to the school on a regular basis. They also helped link the school to Beijing Dongzhimen school. Now the two schools, one in the countryside in Guangdong province, the other in the capital city Beijing, become the sister schools. In recent year, BP IST employees (Integrated Supply and Trading), have developed a program to support two Hope Schools. Each year, the volunteers would spend a couple of days in the class room through teaching lectures such as HSE (health, safety and environment), road safety, setting up library, IT etc, in order to raise their HSE awareness and develop their capacities.
Besides, BP staff also provide personal sponsorship to students at these schools who otherwise would be unable to continue their education due to poverty.
