BP Target Neutral - Cutting vehicle CO2 emissions

BP Target Neutral is a non-profit initiative that gives drivers a simple, practical way to make their own, personal contribution to reducing, replacing and neutralising‚ the CO2 emissions their driving produces

About BP Target Neutral

Launched in August 2006, this initiative is another example of BP’s long-term strategy of finding new and better ways to minimise the carbon impact of road transport fuels on the environment and participate in addressing climate change issues.

BP Target Neutral is currently available to motorists in 6 countries across Europe and supports low carbon development projects in a further 10 countries.

Join the BP Target Neutral programme

By logging on to www.bptargetneutral.com, drivers can calculate how much CO2 their car emits, calculate the impact changing driving behaviours can have on reducing that figure and also learn more about the offset projects supported. It is easy to participate, and involves a cash contribution to the programme to offset your driving emissions, which is usually around £20 per year, depending on your vehicle, mileage and fuel consumption.

How does BP use Target Neutral?

In each country where BP Target Neutral is available, BP is committed to offsetting a company owned fleet of vehicles. For example, in the UK BP offsets the driving emissions from its fuel tankers. In most countries BP will also make a cash contribution, for every litre of BP fuel purchased (excluding fuel card purchases), by members using loyalty cards.

All the money raised, except for card transaction fees, is paid to support independently verified low carbon development projects that reduce or avoid CO2 being released into the atmosphere to offset the CO2 emissions produced from members driving emissions. Each member will receive certification that their driving emissions have been offset.

The scheme is monitored and guided by an independent Advisory and Assurance Panel chaired by Sir Jonathon Porritt. BP Target Neutral gives drivers an easy way to learn about altering behaviours to reduce emissions and provides an affordable non-profit mechanism for drivers who want to offset their emissions.
