Subsurface and wells
BP’s strategy is to invest in the largest, lowest cost, new hydrocarbon deposits so we can build production with steadily improving returns. Meanwhile, we also seek to maximize production from our existing assets.
That means we need world-class geoscientists and petrophysicists, using the latest techniques, to help us discover and exploit resources. We also seek petroleum and reservoir engineers who will find new ways to extract hydrocarbons more safely, efficiently and cost-effectively than ever before.

Geoscientists
In the quest to find and develop oil and gas all over the world, you’ll be exposed to the kind of sophisticated tools, methodologies and technologies that give BP a distinct competitive advantage. You’ll have the opportunity to work on a diverse range of geographies and development types, including a variety of offshore, deepwater, onshore, oil, gas and condensate scenarios of differing scale. You may find yourself in exploration – looking for hydrocarbon accumulations in the most upstream part of our business; working in appraisal and development, to ensure the maximum recovery of hydrocarbons from producing reservoirs, or working with commercial, legal, political and technological experts to negotiate entry into new areas.
Petrophysicists
BP offers you the opportunity to work on a diverse range of geographies and development types, including a variety of offshore, deepwater, onshore, oil, gas and condensate scenarios of differing scale. You will also have the added benefit of being involved in the application of leading edge technologies where BP has a distinct advantage, including Field of the Future techniques for real-time data acquisition and management.Typical petrophysical roles include; providing technical consultancy to the global assets in petrophysical evaluation; the characterization of reservoir flow units by integrating all available core, log and production data; supporting well planning and reservoir completion design, and actively participating in the appropriate technical networks and R&D programmes.
Petroleum / reservoir engineers
Throughout BP’s field operations, petroleum and reservoir engineers play a crucial role. That is why we offer you the opportunity to be involved in the application of leading edge technologies such as top-down reservoir modelling to manage subsurface uncertainties and Field of the Future techniques for real time data acquisition and management. Our engineers are essential to the creation of value for BP. Their involvement in technical consultancy, reservoir completion design and data acquisition recommendation programmes means they can impact on production operations and optimize plant performance.
