Plutonio
Plutonio is a new low sulphur (0.39% wt.) medium gravity (32.6ºAPI) crude oil from Angola’s deepwater block 18. The development area comprises of five oil fields called Plutonio, Galio, Paladio, Cromio and Cobalto from water depths of around 1300 metres. These are all located within 20km of each other and form the Plutonio crude blend. Samples have shown these five fields to be very similar in quality.
Production is due to commence in mid-2007 and will quickly ramp up to in excess of 200 kbpd.
The Angolan deep water region is a world class hydrocarbon basin. Considerable exploration success has been achieved in the deep water blocks 15, 17 and in block 18 where BP is the operator. BP also operates the ultra-deep water Block 31 which at the time of publishing has yielded thirteen exploration successes.
Plutonio is being developed and operated by BP who have a 50% equity interest in the project. The remaining 50% is owned by SSI.
