BP in the Middle East
BP has a 100 year association with the Middle East that goes back to the foundation of the Anglo-Persian Oil Company in 1909
What we do
In the Middle East, the BP group has offices in Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE. The head office for our Middle East exploration and production activities is in Abu Dhabi. From here, we oversee our operations in Abu Dhabi, Oman and Sharjah, the delivery of technical services to Kuwait and business development throughout the region. Dubai is the regional hub for our refining and marketing businesses as well as our regional trading operations, known as BP Middle East. Here we market oil products and provide technical support and other related services across the region.
Through the activities of Air BP, BP Lubricants, BP Marine and Integrated Supply and Trading (IST), our Dubai operation reaches out to 38 countries, ranging from Egypt in the west to Sri Lanka in the east.
Our people and partners
We work closely with governments, national oil companies, partners and customers through activities spanning the entire spectrum of the energy industry. Our exploration and production activities in the Middle East range from joint ventures with the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company to the production and processing of gas in Sharjah, and the development of tight gas fields in Oman.
The refining and marketing side of our business includes the joint venture blending plants in Dubai and Iran, which produce premium quality lubricants under the BP, Castrol, Duckhams and Veedol brands.
Air BP is one of the main suppliers of aviation fuel and lubricants to the region’s airlines, with major operations at Aden, Beirut, Dubai and Sharjah airports and joint venture operations at Jeddah and Medina airports in Saudi Arabia.
BP Marine supplies a range of technically advanced lubricants and marine fuels at ports across the region and runs an extensive fuel bunkering facility at the fast growing port of Salalah in Oman.

Community investment
At BP, we aim to make a difference to the communities in which we operate. We strive to be a force for good and demonstrate this through the creation of job opportunities, the engagement of local suppliers and supporting development projects. All our businesses throughout the Gulf region support the BP Young Adventurers Programme. Developed by BP to help educate 14-16 year olds, the programme has taken thousands of teenagers on weekends of learning and adventure to help build their self-awareness, develop their leadership skills, and make them more safety-conscious and environmentally aware.
BP is actively engaged with universities and professional bodies across the region, regularly sponsoring educational initiatives that foster young talent. We are a key supporter of the Abu Dhabi Petroleum Institute, a pioneering educational establishment founded through collaboration between the industry and professional consortia.
BP in Sharjah has launched an annual university awards programme, the ‘BP Excellence Awards’, which is based on the company’s brand values and recognises students for outstanding achievement in their academic life.

BP is also involved with the Dubai Future Leaders programme, a capacity building initiative for national executives and young managers.
BP is also a founding member of Tawteen, an initiative of the Emirates Foundation that seeks to develop and deliver sustainable solutions to learning and development in the UAE and the wider region. This is achieved by bringing together the government, the private sector, civil society and academia to address social and cultural challenges, to ensure that underrepresented groups gain access to key skill and self development programs. As part of Tawteen, BP is lending its support to several pilot projects currently under assessment and is championing the Youth and Leadership pilot project.
