P class overview
The BP P class tankers all bear last names that begin with the letter "P"
At about 306,000 deadweight tonnes, they are among the Very Large Crude Carrier shipping group, often known simply as VLCC. VLCC vessels range from 200,000 to 315,000 tonnes deadweight. They carry crude oil.
These ships were built for BP in Korea by Samsung Heavy Industries Company Limited. They are British-flagged, with Douglas, Isle of Man as their port of registry. Their classification society is Lloyds Register. BP operates these ships, providing its own crews and provisions. They operate in several patterns: West Coast of Africa to the US Gulf Coast; Arabian Gulf to US Gulf/West Coast; Arabian Gulf to South Africa; Arabian Gulf to North-West Europe; North-West Europe to US Gulf Coast.
