Saxi Batuque Blend is a new medium gravity, moderately acidic, sweet crude from Angola’s deepwater block 15. Saxi Batuque Blend will be the fifth deepwater production hub in the block which also contains Hungo, Kissanje, Xikomba and Mondo. The Saxi Batuque Blend development consists of two fields, Saxi Batuque Blend and Batuque, which will be tied back to a single FPSO and exported as a single grade.
The Angolan deep water region is proving to be a world class hydrocarbon basin. Considerable success has been achieved in the deepwater blocks 15 and 17 and also in block 18 where BP is the operator. BP additionally operates the ultra-deepwater Block 31 which at the time of publishing has yielded fifteen exploration successes.
Saxi Batuque Blend is owned through a production sharing agreement between Sonangol (the Angolan state owned oil company) and a contractor group consisting of ExxonMobil (40% equity), BP (26.67% equity), Eni (20% equity) and Statoil (13.33% equity).
