Application and selection process

It is very important that you give some thought to why you are applying for a BP funded scholarship and why you are considering a career with BP. Please take time to review our Graduate and Intern opportunities, to confirm that the career opportunities at BP match your professional aspirations.

There are two stages to the application and selection process:

Stage 1 – Complete online application form and online test

To apply, you should complete our online application form. Please read above to make sure you are eligible to apply for an Opportunity Award.

We ask you to complete the form online because it helps us to make the application process quicker – which is better for you and better for us. However, we believe in looking at each application individually. We receive many applications but every single one is looked at by one of our experienced team. So you can be sure that your application will be seen by a person and not automatically scored by a computer.
If you meet our minimum requirements having submitted your application, we will send you an email along with details of how to take our online test. The test lasts about 20 minutes and has two short sub-tests within it looking at verbal and numerical reasoning. We offer the choice of taking the test in different languages so there is a good chance you will be able to take the test in your first language, if this is not English.

Once your application has been reviewed and you have taken the test, one of our recruitment team will then make the decision whether or not to invite you to the first-round interviews. This decision will be based on the strength of your application and your performance in the online test. Please make sure you give us your most up-to-date email address.

The application form generally takes about 45-60 minutes to complete, but it is worth investing the time to give yourself the best possible chance of success. We have made the application form as quick and easy to use as we can, and you can save it as you work on it so you don’t need to complete it all in one go. If you have a disability and would like help in completing your application or if you need help at any other stage of the selection process, please contact us on 0800 279 2088 (overseas +44 1932 760 800).

Stage 2 - Attend interviews

If your application is successful, you will be invited to attend a personal interview and a technical interview. The personal interview will focus on areas such as your significant achievements, and how you have worked with others and built relationships.
The technical interview will be conducted by someone from a relevant discipline for the scholarship for which you are applying. In this interview, you will be presented with some scenarios and questions that reflect the type of problems and situations you might have to deal with if you were successful.
