BP’s Venturing activity is strategically positioning our Alternative Energy business to become a leader in this diverse landscape. For us, ‘venturing’ means acquiring an interest [direct or indirect stake] in early or growth stage companies, or nurturing a new business activity internally.
Our guiding objectives are clear:
Gain strategic insight: develop strategic insights into emerging technologies, novel business models and CleanTech market trends, by investing and partnering with selected external funds specialising in early or growth stage ‘CleanTech’ opportunities, and monitoring market trends.Access to emerging technologies: secure advantaged access to key technologies to support current or potential Alternative Energy businesses, typically through joint development partnerships or by taking a minority stake in an entrepreneurial company.
Build strategic business options: developing a pipeline of future business options, joint project development, joint market entry and through supply chain partnerships.
