Our strategy

BP Australia’s strategy, closely aligned with that of the BP group, emphasizes the goal of sustaining and growing our businesses

Exploration and Production

Globally, BP’s strategy is to build production by:

  • Focusing on finding the largest fields, in the world’s most prolific hydrocarbon basins
  • Building leadership positions in these areas
  • Managing the decline of existing producing assets when they no longer compete in our portfolio
For BP Australia, this means continuing our participation in the North West Shelf Venture, producing a range of hydrocarbons including oil, liquefied natural gas and liquefied petroleum gas. We will invest to sustain the production plateau and commercialise its remaining reserves. We are also evaluating opportunities for the development of the Browse and Io fields with our co-venturers, which may involve investment in new offshore and onshore facilities.

Refining and Marketing

Refining and marketing is BP’s product and service-led arm, focused on fuels, lubricants and chemicals products. Our aims are to excel in the markets we choose to be in and to be in those markets that allow us to serve the major energy requirements of the world.

By serving our customers and promoting BP and its brands, we expect to be rewarded with sustainable competitive returns and enduring growth. Our products represent quality, based on a commitment to excellence in safe and reliable manufacturing operations.
