Sustainability Review 2008

At BP we define sustainability as the capacity to endure as a group: by renewing assets; creating and delivering better products and services that meet the evolving needs of society
BP Sustainability Review 2008 is aimed at all readers with an interest in BP’s sustainability performance.
This year, in response to stakeholder feedback and research, we have updated the structure and content of BP Sustainability Review 2008 in print and online. The new structure is based around five key sustainability topics identified by our materiality process:
  • Safe and reliable energy.
  • Diverse and affordable energy.
  • Cleaner energy.
  • People energy.
  • Local energy.
The review covers BP’s position, strategy and performance on each topic. Each chapter of the printed document and each section of this web site is titled to provide a clear indication of the topics contained within them, which we hope is more intuitive for our audiences to navigate.
In addition to the expanded content, the website offers a number of tools to provide our visitors with a richer experience.

Our HSE charting tool allows you to analyse, filter and report on BP’s performance data.
The environmental mapping tool provides local and global data on how BP sites are addressing four environmental aspects – air emissions (non-greenhouse gas), freshwater use, waste water, and waste.

A new feature of the website is the PDF builder. In addition to downloading a complete version of the printed report, the PDF builder allows our visitors to save and collate content from the website and download it for reading or printing purposes if desired.
We would appreciate you taking a minute to let us know what you think about BP’s reporting on our sustainability activities (environment, society and safety) and the Environment and society website.

Your feedback is invaluable for identifying areas of improvement for the website and sustainability reports.
