Health impact assessments

In 2008, we delivered training programmes to help our people around the world undertake BP health impact assessments, formal processes for understanding and analyzing the baseline community situation and evaluating the health impacts of BP activities on host communities. Health professionals from the UK, Oman, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Russia, Trinidad & Tobago and Pakistan participated in training.

Tackling HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria

As a member of the Global Business Coalition (GBC), BP has signalled its commitment to work with others to tackle HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria. In 2008, BP’s group chief executive Tony Hayward, signed the coalition’s pledge to fight HIV/AIDS discrimination and stigma in the workplace.

BP is an active participant in the International Association of Oil and Gas Producers (OGP) and the International Petroleum Industry Environment Conservation Association (IPEICA), serving a lead role on its Health Committee. In 2008, OGP/IPIECA convened, in partnership with the GBC, Royal Dutch Shell and Booz & Company Inc., a technical roundtable to examine how best to tackle HIV/AIDS in the supply chain, sharing best practices and tools.
